St John’s Evening Community Church is held at 6.00 pm every Sunday.
Usually the service is held in the hall, however sometimes it will be in the church – please look for us.
Community Church is typically a relaxed and informal service where we try to include and make welcome everyone who wants to share in this time of community and worship. The leadership of the service – music, leading and teaching, is shared by a number of people who are part of the congregation. Every week others volunteer to take part by doing the Bible readings and praying. There are plenty of opportunities to contribute to the services.
Because the teaching is shared amongst community members, the messages vary in content and style. This diversity means that the themes we choose are explored from a number of different viewpoints and with a variety of emphases.
The congregation has a long tradition of concern for social justice issues. This includes a concern for homelessness, mental health issues and refugees – with a connection to the personal stories of individuals and the wider social attitudes and policies which impact on them. Many of its members are involved with Rough Edges, St John’s community centre, and St John’s Community Services, which particularly focus on serving the needs of the most marginalized members of our society.
